• Review: Moon

Availability: Currently available on Blu-Ray and DVD.

The Skinny: Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is just two weeks away from completing his three year contract on the moon. Sam sends resources back to Earth to help the planets power problems with the help of his computer friend GERTY. But suddenly Sam is not alone. Out on the surface of the moon he discovers the body of himself.

The Good: From the preview you can probably figure out who the second Sam is. Thankfully, the filmmakers don't try to draw this out for the duration of the film and make it the central story. Because of this Moon is much more of a psychological drama than a mystery.

    The Bad:
If you're expecting a mystery thriller type film then you may be disappointed. This is much more of a character driven drama about how Sam copes with the revelation of who he is.

    The Verdict:
The studio could have done a better job at marking the film. Considering that we only really see Sam (with the exception of Kevin Spacey as the voice of GERTY) it's pretty amazing the film never gets boring. If you have an hour and a half to kill and enjoy dramas you should give Moon a viewing.

I am glad someone has reviewed this. I have spent the past couple days flip-flopping on the idea of renting it.

I could tell from the advertisement that this was going to be more of a drama than a thriller, but it seemed the studio was trying to market it as a thriller. Sort of like they did with Solaris, which I enjoyed even though I felt those trailers were misleading as well.

I had a really good idea going in what this was probably about and I was right. This didn't diminish my enjoyment of the film however, in fact I was pleasantly surprised at how this type of scenario played out. What impressed me most about the film was the ending and how it was handled. No spoon-fed hollywood ending, it was perfect in how simple it was and the possibiliies it contained.

I thought the movie was well worth it. Sam Rockwell was very good as usual.
